![]() The much-anticipated full-length Hysteria finally surfaced in mid-1984, heralding a more forceful sound than earlier Human League releases. After a Rushent remix disc, Love and Dancing, the Human League finally issued 1983's Fascination! EP and scored a pair of hits with "Mirror Man" and "(Keep Feeling) Fascination." A tour of the States followed, but new music was extremely slow in forthcoming. Still, their true breakthrough was "Don't You Want Me." The classic single, as well as parent album Dare!, both topped their respective charts in England, and went on to become major hits in the U.S. Their next single, "Love Action," reached number three, and after adding ex-Rezillo Jo Callis, the League issued "Open Your Heart," another hit. Recorded with producer Martin Rushent, the slicker follow-up "Sound of the Crowd" fell just shy of the Top Ten. ![]() The first single from the revamped Human League, 1981's "Boys and Girls," reached the British Top 50. ![]() Their departure forced Wright to learn to play the synthesizer at the same time, Oakey recruited bassist Ian Burden as well as a pair of teenagers, Susanne Sulley and Joanne Catherall, to handle additional vocal duties. Still, internal tensions forced Ware and Marsh to quit the group in late 1980, at which time they formed Heaven 17. Travelogue followed the next year and reached the U.K. After a 1979 EP, the instrumental The Dignity of Labour, the group released its first full-length effort, Reproduction, a dark, dense work influenced largely by Kraftwerk. A minor underground hit, it was followed by a tour in support of Siouxsie & the Banshees. ![]() The slide presentations of "director of visuals" Adrian Wright quickly became a key component of their performances.Īfter they signed with the indie label Fast, the Human League issued their first single, "Being Boiled," in 1978. The trio recorded a demo and played their first live dates. Following a brief tenure as the Future, a period during which they added and lost synthesizer player Adi Newton and enlisted vocalist Philip Oakey, they rechristened themselves the Human League. The group was formed in Sheffield, England in 1977 by synth players Martyn Ware and Ian Marsh, who'd previously teamed as the duo Dead Daughters. Synth pop's first international superstars, the Human League were among the earliest and most innovative bands to break into the pop mainstream on a wave of synthesizers and electronic rhythms, their marriage of infectious melodies and state-of-the-art technology proving enormously influential on countless acts following in their wake. ![]()

Following the method as closely as possible and timing everything to perfection will make delicious fudge every time. You also need to make sure you have the right amount of fat in the fudge mixture too. It could also be down to the fact that the sugar didn’t fully dissolve before boiling the mixture. If your fudge is grainy it may be because you didn’t mix it for long enough. Therefore it’s better to set the fudge at room temperature. The moisture in the fridge will make the fudge sticky and tends to give a more crumbly, brittle texture compared to soft and chewy. Does fudge need to be refrigerated to set?Īlthough it can be tempting to quicken the setting of your fudge by chilling it, we don’t recommend putting fudge in the fridge or freezer. Store in an airtight container either tin or plastic. Storing fudge in the fridge however may dry it out a little so make sure you wrap it in waxed paper. How long does fudge last for?Īs it’ll last 2 weeks at room temperature and 3-4 weeks in the fridge, you can make it in bulk and store it ahead of gifting. Stir gently but continuously until the sugar crystals are all melted, then boil until it reaches 115-116C again. Pour the fudge syrup into a clean pan and add 3-4 tbsp cream. If your fudge is over-temperature or forms a hard ball in the cold water test, it can make the results hard and brittle. If it forms a ball, fish the ball out of the glass and press it between your fingers. Try again with a clean spoon and new water in a couple of minutes. If it dissolves or forms into threads, it's undercooked. As it falls through the water the syrup should form into a ball. Fill a glass with cold water and drop a small amount of the fudge into it from a teaspoon. How do you know when fudge is done without a thermometer? Perhaps that’s because God knows how easily we can deceive ourselves about what we truly worship or about where we actually place our trust. Such people do not “trust in an idol or swear by a false god.” Being dishonest or deceitful is something God hates. Psalm 24 asks, “Who is worthy to stand in the holy presence of God?” The answer: Only those who have “clean hands and a pure heart.” What does the psalmist mean by that? It offered everyone an opportunity to reflect about who God is in comparison to us, and to be reminded to humble oneself in God’s presence. We can now draw near to God “by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water” (Hebrews 10:19–22, ESV).In ancient times a bowl of water was placed at the entrance of the place of worship so that everyone who came to worship the Lord could wash their hands before coming inside. Christ shed His blood on the cross, providing the necessary sacrifice for our sins so that we could receive God’s forgiveness and complete cleansing (John 1:29 Ephesians 1:7 Hebrews 9:12–22 1 Peter 1:18–19). Only God, through “the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7, ESV). In truth, we cannot cleanse ourselves from sin. When James said, “Cleanse your hands, you sinners,” he was speaking figuratively, using the washing of one’s hands as a symbol of repentance and the washing away of sin. For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. Jesus Christ taught that inner purity is more important than outward, ritualistic cleansing: “The words you speak come from the heart-that’s what defiles you. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor” (James 4:9–10, NLT). Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. He encouraged them to draw near to God in genuine repentance by experiencing gut-wrenching sorrow for their sins: “Let there be tears for what you have done. James saw that it was time for the people to tear down the walls of denial and get honest with themselves before God. A parallel indictment characterized the people of Isaiah’s time: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me” (Isaiah 29:13). James called the people “ double-minded” because they continued to grasp tightly to the world while claiming to love and worship God. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect” (Romans 12:1–2, NLT). Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. The apostle Paul taught believers to give their bodies-including their hands-to God as “a living and holy sacrifice-the kind he will find acceptable. We purify our hearts through the inward renewal of the mind and spirit (Psalm 51:10). We cleanse our hands by removing them from sinful pursuits and moral compromises and then seeking God’s forgiveness. We get our hands dirty when we play in the world’s sandbox. ![]() God had issued a similar order through the prophet Isaiah: “Wash yourselves. James’ charge to “cleanse your hands” focused more on the people’s worldly actions and outward deeds. James may have also had these words of King David in mind: “Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god” (Psalm 24:3–4). It shall be a statute forever to them, even to him and to his offspring throughout their generations” (Exodus 30:21, ESV). Whenever the priests entered the wilderness tabernacle and approached the altar to minister to the Lord, they were required to cleanse their hands and feet with water from the bronze basin: “They shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they may not die. James’ use of the phrase cleanse your hands linked his command in a spiritual and moral sense to the language of the ancient Jewish ceremonial rituals of worship. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded” (James 4:8, ESV). He beckoned his readers to repent from their sinful ways and return to the Lord: “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. ![]() James observed a widespread problem of worldliness infiltrating the lives of Christians in the early church. ![]() ![]() As an alternative to forwarding your mail for short-term moves, you can put your mail on hold at the post office.įor international moves, you must file a COA request at your local post office prior to the move.
